Messier 22

Catalog: Messier 22 / NGC 6656

Constellation: Sagittarius

Telescope: 11-inch Schmidt-Cassegrain CPC

Camera: Canon Digital Rebel EOS SL1

Exposure: 30 seconds (I think)

This is a globular cluster–sort of a mysterious object. According to Cambridge, “there is no widely accepted theory of globular cluster formation.” Of the ones I’ve heard, my favorite is the idea is that they are the cores of small galaxies that have been devoured by larger galaxies like our own Milky Way.
