Catalog: Caldwell 2 / NGC 40
Constellation: Cepheus
Telescope: 11-inch Schmidt-Cassegrain CPC
Camera: Canon Digital Rebel EOS SL1
Software: DeepSkyStacker (mine) and Adobe Photoshop (courtesy of my dad)
Exposure and ISO unknown; I took this picture way back in November and just now got around to posting it. Didn’t note down the details I should have.
A planetary nebula, the remains of a star similar to our own. At its heart lies a white dwarf, a ball of degenerate carbon about the size of the Earth. And this one would probably look better if I’d remembered my “darks” that night. In my defense, I was out in the desert a 2-hour drive away from home, and it was freezing out.
